Fernando Lelo de Larrea H., founder, and Managing Partner of Rumbo Ventures, is a successful veteran in the alternative assets industry. Substantial accomplishments in sectors like venture capital, real estate, and project finance mark his extensive career of over 25 years. In recent years, Fernando has taken a keen interest in addressing the major environmental crisis of our time – climate change.

In 2012, he co-founded ALLVP (Antoni Lelo de Larrea Venture Partners), emerging as a prominent early-stage investor in Spanish-speaking Latin America. As the Managing Partner until 2021, he contributed significantly to diverse sectors, including Foodtech through Robinfood, Proptech via Flat, Fintech with Flink, Climatetech by Enlight and e3, and Healthcare by partnering with MSC Health.

Before his achievements with ALLVP, Fernando was the CFO and later the COO of UmbralCapital, a real estate private equity fund underwritten by Capital Group and Discovery Americas. He was named CEO in 2011 and subsequently appointed as Executive Chairman. His leadership at UmbralCapital saw the successful development of over 10,000 housing units.

Earlier in his career, Fernando played an instrumental role as the Deputy Director of the Energy and Project and Finance division at the top Mexican investment bank, Protego Asesores, now known as Evercore. This follows his initial role as an Investment Banking Analyst at the same firm.

Fernando’s experience extends beyond just investment banking and asset management. He has provided expert evaluation and advice to hundreds of companies across Latin America, lending his extensive knowledge in Corporate Governance, M&A, and growth financing.

His dedication to entrepreneurial growth in Mexico led him to co-found the Entrepreneurship Center at ITAM, a highly regarded engineering and business institution. Fernando, an alumnus of ITAM, has been imparting his knowledge and expertise as a Lecturer since 2001. He holds a bachelor’s in economics from ITAM and has served as the Chairman of ITAM’s Alumni Association in 2012.

His global education credentials include a master’s in economics from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (2000) and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business (2004).
